RADIOSHOCK

This section could be boring to you, simply because it's the background on how I discovered K-lite, but I wouldn't stop you if you wanna read on.

COUCH POTATO

I was never a heavy radio listener. Back in 96, the longest that I could stand a radio station is, for, maybe, an hour, tops. Well, I used to listen to NU107 mainly because of Jessica Zafra but when her radio talkshow went off the air, my being a non-radio person increased. The only times that I'm able or rather forced to listen to some radio stations is whenever I am on a public vehicle. Sometimes I'd bring my cousin's walkman with me, so, I wouldn't have to put up with those things they call songs (some people do like those kind of songs for reasons I don't know!) I'm just thankful I am not one of those people. Radio wasn't a very BIG part of my life then, I was always glued to the tube! (at least whenever there's still good-enough shows to watch!) Nowadays, my TV viewing decreased because of K-lite and because of my temporary work.

I'D GO WITH FATE

"You wouldn't know that you were missing something unless you have encountered that thing one way or another."

My life went on--with my being a couch potato, staying up til morning, my letter-writing, my studies (will always be my studies!), my wish to have my own PC, my thrice a week dose of Twisted articles --but on one particular article, Jessica wrote that her radio-talkshow will be on the air once again, this time via DWKX-FM 103.5 K-lite. That was the time that I can say fate was on my side, I already like Jessica Zafra, and I didn't know that I would also like(that's an understatement!) the station that brought her back on the air.

SLOWLY BUT SURELY

May 12, 1996 was the return of Jessica Zafra's radio talkshow Twisted, with a better timeslot than before. Her co-host is Little David, K-lite's station manager. At that point in time, I didn't know that I was in for so much with Twisted's new home. Actually, I couldn't care less about K-lite then, all I'm after was Twisted. But slowly and I would have to say surely, K-lite grew into me. My once a week, 3 hours maximum K-lite listening became a once a week, almost 4 hours thing. I remember, I used to have a Twisted headstart by turning on my radio an hour before the show and I was really shocked and happy one Sunday afternoon coz they played Loser by Beck and How do you talk to an angel? by Jamie Walters! I told myself, "the dj's hardly talk, there were not a lot of commercials (nowadays, they have a lot of those, they've come a long way!) nobody passes the phone, they don't humiliate their contestants on the air (just be the right caller number, as easy as that, you get the prize!), this radio station is really something!" It turned out more than something for me.

THE UPSIDE OF BEING AN INSOMNIAC

An after radioshock hit me one Wednesday midnight, there were no good shows left on TV, I decided to listen to some K-lite music, I had to double check my cousin's walkman dial coz there were people talking, no, they were conversing, on the air, at midnight. I was like, "what is this? K-lite got a midnight talkshow as well?" After the show ended at 2AM, I learned that it was an experimental telephone talkshow called Nitelite (the commercial for that show before sounded really steamy and sexy!) and the voices during that time belong to Martin Gill, Monica & Jinji. But Little David is the main man of the show, he was just somewhere else when I first got a dose of Nitelite. Nowadays, there's still Little David plus Monica & The Blade, from time to time one of the member of the Ming Dynasty, their TV themes, once in a while they do a movie themes week and of course the callers. (the most talked about topic is the L word---that's Love for you!)

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

It's been 2 years (it doesn't seem like it though!) now, since I first got a K-lite shot, I'm still heavily inclined or addicted if you will. It's getting stronger every day. (that's a hint on how to torture me!) No K-lite for one day, just thinking about it makes me wanna go buy my own walkman. (oh, I need money for that, I guess, it would have to wait!) With K-lite, I've experienced a lot of firsts. My first time to join a radio contest, from Little David, got an Elektrikoolaid cassette. My first time to be in an advance movie screening, (I'm a cheapskate, I always wait for the regular screening!), from Don Henry, That thing you do! My first free CD, Sonny Z, Power of Love. My first to watch a Hootie and the Blowfish gig, The Blade, My first time to be in a radio station! My first time to meet disc jockeys and the rest of the K-lite people. There's Mr. Prizemaster Bob, Mr. Raymond, Miss Cynthia, Mr. Melvin? (or maybe it's Marvin, but you won't miss him, he's always smiling!), Mr. Noel, Mr. Eymard (or something that sounds like that!), Mr. Leo, (not DiCaprio!) and some others. (Sorry, I'm not aware of your names!) My first time to be heard on the air!(Nitelite, topic:survey!) My first time to make a peach float! (for them!) I think, K-lite got this drug-like effect thing going, if you listen to them, you're gonna get hooked one way or another. I'm telling you "once in, never out!" (that's a line from the Prayer of the Rollerboys!) My first time to make a newsletter, K-lite Buzz! My first website! My first time to be in a drive-in movie! My first time to attend those local band gigs! My first time to meet Jimmy Ray?! (ooops! just kidding!) My first time to really be content in a radio station, and of course that's 103.5 K-lite. Well, this ain't a first but K-lite has been my confidence booster eversince. Just can't imagine my life now without K-lite. No, I'm not gonna think about it, just the thought of thinking about it makes me don't wanna think at all! (a lot of thinking goin' on there!) To K-lite--past, present, and future--, THANK YOU! I've said a lot but it boils down to this, I am grateful for the freebies that I got from you guys, I'm very proud to say that I listen to K-lite! (and I have to end this one, I'm transforming into my emotional mode I better quit while I'm ahead!)
