Nowadays, the music world is dominated by women, from Patti Austin to Madonna to Alanis Morissette to Natalie Imbruglia to Sarah MacLachlan to the Spice Girls and the long list goes on. Before, some people say that if it’s not Madonna, Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey a concert venue will not be full but nowadays if it’s a girl singing, most likely it’ll be packed. There could be a lot of reasons for this, but the most important one is the talent. I’m pretty sure that if the female concern doesn’t have it, then nobody will buy her show. Not unless if some shallow minded guys will go to her gigs just to ogle at her coz she happens to be Natalie Imbruglia. (I know someone who bought her album coz he said she’s cute and he constantly e-mails MTV requesting for her videos, he’s totally nuts over Natalie!
Well, I guess, that goes the same way for most of the young males nowadays!) But in my own opinion, she got the voice, her album is quite okay for a new artist.
LIFE ON K-LITE STREET
For every Tuesday of August (whatever’s left of it!) K-lite will have a concert series dubbed as STREETLITE it will be at STREETLIFE in Makati. The deal is, you get the chance to have four passports from K-lite just by tuning in to them. The passports will then be your pass at the venue (duh?!) and it will also entitle you to a P250 worth of whatever you feel like having. All in all, you get P1000 worth for the four passports, for FREE! (not bad huh???) I don’t know about you but whenever the word FREE is mentioned or talked about I get this very good positive feeling, because I do believe that, FREEBIES are almost always good for you, right? (right!) Well, since as of this moment, three Tuesdays have gone by and the concert series is about to end in a few days, so, all I can say to you is, if you’re in STREETLIFE right
now, Congratulations! if you’re not, well, better luck next time! (whenever that will be!)

On last month’s BUZZ, I sort of wrote something about K-lite’s new jock on the block (he got a name now, which is RON SOUTH!) and now, I’m gonna do the same thing for another new jock on K-lite, well, the latest addition to K-lite’s enterprise is a guy so precious, his name happens to be precious too, as in VINCE PRECIOUS (I don’t know why precious, it sounds so girly but it’s catchy and cute! I really don’t know much about the new precious jock except that he used to be Rockin’ V. (never heard of him!) Monica said on NITELITE one time, I didn’t catch from what station! (doesn’t matter!)

Hey! I’m back with the fourth ish of my so-called newsletter! Yes, this is number 4! Can’t believe it, but yeah, I’ve done 3 other so-called newsletters already! The July ish, I distributed during the LETHAL WEAPON 4 advance screening, I guess, I must have given out 40 copies or more of the newsletter! Also, I got the chance to distribute some during the first STREETLITE gig. I still have 16 copies with me which I’m sure I’ll be able to distribute (along with this one you’re reading!) on Tuesday during the final gig for the STREETLITE concert series. Well, today happens to be my day off, no, I work during night time, so, it should be my night off but I still came here at the office to finish my act here. See? I wouldn’t have another chance this month to distribute this latest (well, not really!) newsletter coz I’m guessing the next K-lite gathering after Tuesday’s
STREETLITE concert will be on September already and my so-called newsletter is already late as it is, so, I just don’t wanna delay it further more. I’m just one lucky person coz during weekends nobody uses the PC here at the office, so, I don’t pass up an opportunity like this. (NOPE! NEVER! NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!) I started making this last Wednesday (19th) and I’m gonna finish this today, a Monday (a very early Monday at 2:38am!) K-lite signed off a few minutes ago!) Know what DJ Ron South’s (the new kid on K-lite’s block!) 2 favorite topics? GIRLS & MORE GIRLS! He talks about them incessantly (nothing wrong with that though, to each his own!). Man, I don’t know, I still believe that too much of anything ain’t too good for a person. I just had to bring that up coz I was listening to the guy for four straight hours. (but he’s okay coz he played all my requests! yay!)

So, what better way to show female power than by featuring them on a half hour show on our right kind of lite every weekday afternoons, right? at the helm is none other than Miss Female Power herself, Monica, the show is called CAREFREE RHYTHM my interpretation on the title is women care, women are free and women definitely got rhythm. I don’t know what is it about female musicians, that led me to buy their albums only because they happen to be a she. I guess, it’s my way of supporting my own gender or something like that. Have you ever heard of ECHOBELLY? RUBY? or SLEEPER? Well, they are bands with females as their lead singer.
I guess, they can qualify as the one hit wonders to some people. (like me!) Do I regret buying their album? (Yeah, whenever I don’t have money!)
On CAREFREE RHYTHM you get to hear the hits of the most sought after females from the early years up to the present, and every Tuesdays and Thursdays you get female power to the max with GIRLTALK as the appetizer with Monica & Jinji. I can’t think of anything more to say about the female acts, we all know that they’re great and all, so, I’m gonna make a list of the female musicians that I’m familiar with one way or another. Here goes... MADONNA (she got 9 nominations on the upcoming MTV awards!) SARAH MacLACHLAN (the founder of the ‘Lilith Fair’) NATALIE IMBRUGLIA (need I say more???) ALANIS MORISSETTE (can’t wait for her next album!) TRACY CHAPMAN (when I first heard her, I thought she was a he!) ARETHA FRANKLIN (is she the one who sang ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T’? and the theme from
wheel of fortune?) PATTI AUSTIN (my sister’s fave!) NATALIE MERCHANT (though I don’t have her solo projects only the 10,000 Maniacs albums, it’s no doubt that she’s good!) THE CORRS (they sound good, they look good!) ALANA DAVIS (she got 32 flavors and then some!) VONDA SHEPARD (just buy the ‘Ally McBeal’ soundtrack!) MONICA (the singer, not the jock, I like her better than...) BRANDY (but she’s cool as Moesha!) SHERYL CROW (on her latest vid, my favorite mistake she kinda look like MADONNA, who all she wanna do is have some FUN! Ain’t we all wanna have some fun? What I’m doing right now is F-U-N!) CELINE DION (okay, I admit, I like the song because you love me because of the movie Up Close and Personal not because of Miss Dion, but did you know that DJ Lannie Chan’s fave is?... Celine Dion---hehehe!) SHANIA TWAIN (her don’t be stupid song is good,
she’s like the goddess of country music!) MARIAH CAREY (I only liked her recently, because of the song breakdown!) SHIRLEY MANSON (her music is no GARBAGE!) GWEN STEFANI (the trendiest gal of the ska scene and the envy of most women for snagging the most beautiful rock star alive, Gavin Rossdale!) DOLORES O’RIORDAN (her voice will definitely linger on your memory!) THE SPICE GIRLS (to quote Chris Rock "everybody’s doing it but no one’s admitting it!" well, I like who do you think you are? & two become one!) PAULA COLE (shaving may not be her thing but she sure sound good!) JEWEL (sometimes you like her, sometimes you don’t!) TRACEY THORN (everything but not without that girl!) Well, I’m runnning out of space but there are still a lot of female acts out there, so, I guess, you just have to listen to CAREFREE RHYTHM for the other females that I failed to mention. It’s just great to be a female! Don’t you think? (yeah!)
The first band on the list was PASSAGE, so I missed an Ally McBeal episode, well, I gotta be there and see Ira again! Ira or Ally? (well, Ira won, hands down!) It’s been 3 years since I’ve seen them perform live and they are better than ever! (especially Ira!) I was hoping that they’ll play their own songs but they didn’t. Well, they can’t play everything right?
The second Tuesday, CHANNELS performed, I missed it coz I had to watch the season ender of Ally McBeal! and had to come to work a little early for I was late the previous Tuesday night.
The GROOVE was the main act for the third Tuesday, I didn’t really like them that much and besides I was sleepy at that time, they were playing 70s tunes which I kinda not like! But the people in STREETLIFE enjoyed them a whole lot. They even did an encore. My sister and my cousin had a blast coz Anthony Suntay was a table away from us!
The fourth and final act for the last Tuesday of this month will be GREAT DIVIDE I saw them first during K-lite’s Thanksgiving Party last year, they were okay, I’m looking forward to seeing them again. Well, that’s about it for now. I wonder what’s hidden on K-lite’s sleeve for next month? We will find out very soon.
Another new precious jock to get familiar with on K-lite radio. Actually, I’m used to Precious' voice by now. I always get to hear the first hour of his precious program, I requested a song one time and he preciously played it, so, he’s a definite precious guy in my book!
When I first heard his precious voice, I thought, he sounded kinda not lite but after a few more days, well, he sounded lite already. (I don’t even know what lite sounds like! Don’t mind me!) What I’m trying to say is, at first, I thought that his precious voice is not for K-lite! (just my opinion!) I can’t seem to put my thoughts (whatever’s left of it!) into words. The thing is, now, I learned that whoever the person talking on the air, as long as the music is the same, the format, still no greetings or passing of the phone and other stuffs that we like about K-lite, in other words, K-lite will always be K-lite. It’s like, for instance, if you watch Melrose Place, I mean, the stars of the show have come and gone through the years but the show is still the same as it is when it first came out. (doing it with one another!) Do I make sense? (guess not!) But you do get me, right? K-lite is K-lite. No matter who the jock is. (precious or not so precious!) I’m sure if and when another jock will be added to the enterprise, it’ll be another adjusting period for us listeners!
Hey, I was suppose to talk about the precious guy on K-lite, well, it’s the thought that counts, right? I still have to listen to the precious guy more to be able to write something about the guy they tagged as precious. All I can say is, to the precious guy on K-lite, welcome and I’ll try to tune in as often as possible. Be more precious. (how many times did I mention the word precious? I lost count already!)
I put a lot of visuals on this ish, Ally McBeal a.k.a. Calista Flockhart is in the
upper right corner of the front page, then Andrea, Sharon & Caroline Corr are on the second page along with Taz. On this page, since I don’t have the Casey Kasem’s TOP 20, actually, I could’ve had the list but I fell asleep during the seventh song!(Darn!) I thought I could stay awake for the number one song but I just gave in! But I’ll make sure next month that I’ll have the list, okay? and besides you can check out the replay on Wednesday night! My hunk for this month is, actually, I wanted to put Ricky Martin again but no, I put in Robert Kelly Thomas of MATCHBOX20 (their song 3am has been on Casey’s countdown for 40 weeks already! Talk about longevity!)
What else? I just have to say this, did you know that Celine Dion is DJ Lannie Chan’s fave??? (now you know and I guess the secret’s out! ooops!) Well, have you seen the latest vid of the FOO FIGHTERS walking after you? (cool vid!just cool!) and DES’REE’s version of fire (a duet with BABYFACE!) I just hope K-lite will
play them in the future! Attention: Mister Program Director! Well, I gotta say my goodbye for now, I’m sleepy!
