I’ve always liked countdowns, be it the--- Billboard, the MTV Hitlist, Rick Dee’s, Z Rock 50-- but of course if we’re gonna talk about countdowns, then we must talk about the one that matters the most. Or at least the one that’s most believable & credible! (No AQUA’s ‘barbie girl’ or those really cheesy boy band pop tunes in the countdown!!!) I guess, by now, you all know what I’m talking about or who I’m talking about, right? The one and the only Casey Kasem (yeah!yeah! He’s related to Mike Kasem!) and his weekly US Countdown. When I started listening to K-lite, the fact that they didn’t have a countdown sort of made me wish that they’ll have one!(I just love countdowns!) Another wish of mine, along with the other listeners of K-lite became a reality a few months back when Casey’s TOP 20 became K-lite’s weekly thing.
The COUNTDOWN went off the air for a few months after its airing but all of that are in the past now, because CASEY KASEM’s AMERICAN TOP 20 went back on K-lite’s shores last July 4th! (Independence Day? Does that imply something???) Well, whatever, the important thing is, the COUNTDOWN’s back and even better because we have 2 chances of catching it on the air! That’s every Saturdays at noon and Wednesdays at 9PM!
THE NEW JOCK ON K-LITE BLOCK
"Tell me what makes you tick!" said the unfamiliar voice on K-lite’s frequency one early morning, of course, he was implying as to what song(s) you’d like to hear. The first time that I heard his voice made me a bit uneasy and surprised, coz I got used to not hearing anybody ‘talk’ from 3 to 6 in the morning. I asked myself "Who is this person representing K-lite?" My feeling at that time was the same whenever I’m "forced" to listen to other radio stations. (I could only wish that I have a remote control for every radio sets wherever I may be, especially inside a public vehicle! I get goosebumps whenever I hear that ‘Jessa Zaragosa’ song!) Only this time, I’m actually listening to K-lite and well, it took about a week or so before I finally got used to the new guy’s voice!
THE DAY LINDY TURNED 23?
Last July 15th, our morning newsie turned 23? (Let’s leave it at that! If she said 23, then 23 it is! I guess, she likes Michael Jordan!) I’ve been a morning person for quite some time now and I must say that her voice is the most familiar one among the K-lite jocks. Even on TV, especially that shampoo commercial, I think, that’s her voice! Well, our mornings in here are never boring especially whenever she and SonnyZ talks about some "hot" stuffs. If Jinji got a contagious laugh, well, she does too!
AEON'S WAY
Well, this is number 3! Some say the third one is the turning point or something, I really don’t know! All I know is, this is my third newsletter (a so-called newsletter) which I started last Saturday the 18th. This particular ish was another challenge for me because I used a different program. The program? Well, it’s MS POWER POINT I tried my BEST to replicate the previous newsletters! (did I succeed???some of the fonts I used before are not available on this PC) Why did I settle for PowerPoint? Well, the thing is, I moved to another place that doesn’t have a PC and I guess, I really have to be patient and content with whatever it is that I can use in making this newsletter. Using PowerPoint wasn’t easy and it wasn’t hard at the same time. Sort of in the middle, I learned a lot of new stuffs! (the best part!) Had fun and learn a lot at the same time. Actually, I also
discovered that I can use the program MS WORD but it will REALLY take too much of my time here at the office! (I only got 8 hours, the first 2 for my daily reports, the next 4 for whatever I can think of, the remaining hours is work related again, so, when my boss arrives she’ll think that I’m always doing my job! hehehe!) Am I taking advantage of the situation? (you bet I am!) But I’m not neglecting my job, I always make sure that I finish the ones that needs to be done! First things first, then, I can do whatever I want! My officemates sleep (literally!) on their jobs while I don’t! I just stay awake and tinker with this computer! I wish I have my own PC! (I just keep on wishing and wishing and wishing and wishing...)
FIRST QTR 99
K-lite is our special shows radio station. Almost everyday, K-lite have a special program, check out their schedule, and you’ll notice that Mondays & Tuesdays are the only days that they don’t have special programs! (well, of course, aside from TALKBACK & GIRLTALK!) I guess, every day on K-lite is a special program day. So, are you still listening to those "other" radio stations? Well, it’s your choice!
What’s so special about CASEY’S TOP 20 are those long distance dedications with those sometimes really mushy messages (which Pinoys like however corny it may seem to be!) It kinda hit you sometimes especially if the messages are about losing someone close to you or I guess, it’s Casey’s voice that makes it more heartfelt. The chart toppers from the past, the trivia’s that goes along with almost every song and of course, Casey’s voice! He’s the man! Need I say more??? (Nope!) And to quote Casey, "KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND, and KEEP REACHIN’ FOR THE STARS!"
I’m gonna miss DJ Unplugged, actually, the people in here already do, because according to them he always play cool 80s songs, which they dig a whole lot. That’s why we go along just fine because they like K-lite too. I always smile whenever a person here sings along with K-lite’s jingle. Getting back on the new guy well, do you believe in the saying "first impressions lasts?" Well, I do, and he kinda mispronounced a band name that got the attention of the 3 people in here. But who’s perfect? He actually made it up when he played our request at that time. It’s forgiven but not forgotten.(talk about an ice-breaker) First impressions do last. Nowadays, whenever he’s on, we still pay attention to what he’s saying and enjoy the music and lately we haven’t heard anything unusual. (Well, it’s not like we wait for him to make a mistake! The thing is, during his time, we’re so caught up in our work? and he’s the one who do
the talking for us!) Soundwise, he get 9 votes in here. (or sometimes more, whenever some morning people decides to stay for the night!) DJ Unplugged is missed but some days, a DJ who talks make our working time more bearable coz we get assured that we’re not the only ones awake at this forsaken time of the day.
Coffee and K-lite, that’s our energizer bunnies in here. Take away either one? Then, we’re off to dreamland. To the new guy, welcome and don’t worry we’re not gonna tell that you said ____ instead of ____!!! (Just kidding or maybe not?! I already told someone!) And what makes us tick you asked??? IRIS & CLOSING TIME!
Well, since she turned 23?, I sort of thought of 23? things that I learned about her just by listening to K-lite. I hope you won’t be offended in any way Miss Lindy. 23? Seems a lot, but I’ll see what I can do. Here goes,
1. Her laugh is CONTAGIOUS!
2. She always say "Hi, My name is Lindy" (of course, that’s her name!)
3. She loves scuba diving?!
4. She likes Val Kilmer & Nicolas Cage!
5. She refers to her kids as the munchies (oh no, that’s us!) what I meant was the munchkins!
6. She wanna have a gun for self defense and to protect her munchkins!
7. Her car’s plate number ends with a 3 or 4! (Tuesday codes, not so sure ‘bout the number!) She passes by the Coastal Road!
8. She & SonnyZ always exchange inside jokes! (which I just smile and nod about because I didn’t get it!)
9. She got a favorite song, SonnyZ played it one time, the title escapes my mind!
10. She’s a swinger too! (meaning she plays golf?I think!)
11. She got 3 munchkins?! (not so sure!)
12. What else? Oh, she misses FVR! (he’s a sweet man she once said!)
13. I guess, her handwriting is not that legible coz SonnyZ always takes a pause in reading the traffic situations, or maybe because she’s in a hurry? (whatever!)
14. She doesn’t like Tuesday mornings! She got a ‘Doogie’ friend! (meaning a doctor!)
15. Her hometown is Cebu. (I guess, my memory’s running out on me, that’s what I get for not getting enough sleep!)
16. She mentioned her alma mater, if I remember it right? it’s an all-girl’s school! The name escapes me! (memory lost!)
17. She hates the "check-points" that will happen! (or already happening!)
18. She’s not an e-mail person! (only answered my mail once!)
19. She recommends places that she’s been to!
20. (four more to go!) I guess, she’s a romantic, just the way she introduce some of those mushy songs!
21. (three!) I’m gonna guess again, she takes her coffee with cream?! & She does voice over for pantene (guesses only!)
22. (two!) She got a sexy voice! (that’s according to my companions in here!) She can say the word AIWA in different tones, my officemates like the sultry AIWA!
23. (last but not the least!) Since we both know that she’s not 23, then I’ll settle for 22!
Hey, I got through it, this is like a first for me, I mean thinking of 23 (or 22!) things about a person who I don’t really know that well. She’s like a celebrity in her own right.
Well, Miss Lindy, who turned 23? (a question mark must follow that number from now on!) HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! MAY YOU HAVE MORE 23s to come!
I got carried away with the 2nd newsletter and made 200 copies, which I was able to give out during the DeBeer’s Diamond Filmfest featuring the movie MY BESTFRIEND’s WEDDING this time with the help of my youngest sister, Love! My thanks to her. I had fun giving out the newsletters, I was more at ease and less shy?! This issue is sort of late, really late, it’s the July issue but you’re reading it a few days before August. Well, it’s not like I can do this earlier, I wouldn’t really have a lot of things to write about (as if I already have a lot?!) and besides, I decided that I should have a time frame in making this newsletter. And I guess, the best time would be the last week of every month (for as long as I can do it, actually, it’s more like "for as long as I have my resources!" Anybody out there wanna join me in this thing I call a ‘newsletter?’ (the ‘LATEst’ news!)
Basically, I get my stories from their commercials, their talkshows and just by listening to them. I don’t wanna interview them because it’ll be like official in a way. I like it this way, no pressure, and I can start whenever the desire bugs me. I have to be in the mood and everything will go on smoothly and most of the times, I even thought of other stuffs along the way. When I made the first one, it was because I was on a break from work, no plans, I just did it. But now, I sort of have a plan on the coming issues!(wishful thinking???) Well, whatever, I’m taking it one issue at a time! Remember, I’m not pressured or getting paid in making this. I do this out of freewill. (and out of boredom??) What a way to get bored, huh? I’m a person when bored gets more creative (I’m lifting my own bench now!) My number one reader is my youngest sister, Love she’s sort of my partner. (eventhough she listens to a
monster station, she always help me in making stuffs for K-lite, she’s the artist in the family!) And of course, my nephew Beavis, my niece Sunflower and my cousin Sailormoon (they don’t actually read this but their excitement is enough for me to make another one!) They suggested to put some cartoon characters on the buzz, and I guess, I really can’t say no to a bunch of kids! Well, I like them too! By the way, the hunk for this month is ANTONIO SABATO, JR (just had to put a nice visual!) and the gal on the front page is none other than NATALIE JANE IMBRUGLIA! (she’s like the hottest gal nowadays and her album is recommended too!) Well, I guess, I’ve babbled enough and if you wanna have the previous copies (that’s 2!) of this newsletter (as informal as it can get!) just say the magic word which is, K-LITE for-ever! (NOT!!!)
