I KNOW WHAT YOU DID DURING THE DRIVE-IN MOVIE
I know, I know, my title is a rip-off! See? I can't think of a better title than 'untitled'! My so-called mind is not functioning well! (as always!) If you don't like my title, well, sorry to disappoint you, I'm not that creative when it comes to words! (It's evident in my so-called write-ups in here!) THE YEAR THAT WAS
1998 has been very eventful for K-lite and for me. I would say that last year was the year that I really got to be up close and kinda personal with the K-lite people. Meaning, I've been brave enough to talk to them face to face. My confidence really boosted up because of K-lite. I can now talk to a person while having eye contact at the same time. Hey, I can even initiate a conversation nowadays! (yay for me!) If not for K-lite, K-LITE BUZZ---my so-called newsletter & LITEBUZZ ON-LINE---my unofficial K-lite website, will not be possible. K-lite has been (and still is!) one subject that I learned to love and enjoy at the same time. All through 98, something's always happening with K-lite.
AYE AYE, CAPTAIN! Little David is the first voice on K-lite that I got familiar with, mainly because he's Jessica Zafra's co-host on TWISTED on a Sunday. The commercials on K-lite also helped because almost all of K-lite plugs is voiced by Little David. In other words he's the voice of K-lite. And so much more of course, he happens to be the Station Manager of the right kind of lite. The brain of the COOL stuffs K-lite offers. The captain of the K-lite enterprise. Little David is the man. (Of K-lite!) FIRST QUARTER MOVIES ON K-LITE
The first quarter of 1999 is about to be over in a matter of days (as of writing this, the date is March 19th---my brother's birthday!). It's unbelievable! Where did January and February go? I can't even remember events that happened during the past months. Though I can remember the movies that I've seen through K-lite. So far, they've been good (at least for me!) movies especially YOU'VE GOT MAIL! I also like the kind of paper they used for their tickets.
STREETLITE III
I would never have set foot on STREETLIFE if not for K-lite's STREETLITE concert series. K-lite brought me to places that I wouldn't normally go to. It's just not my thing. I can spend my money on magazines, audiocassettes, internet use, movies (the regular screening price!) but not on places like STREETLIFE, HARDROCK CAFÉ and the like. It's just not my thing. (I've said that already!) Then if it's not my thing, why did I attend some of their gigs? Well, first up, they were FREE! (That's a given already!) It could be for the LIVE gigs. Yeah, that is one of the reasons, so far, they had PASSAGE (twice already!) and SOUTHBORDER--- my two favorite LIVE performers nowadays. Or maybe, I'm just there for the food; there are a lot of really tasteful edibles at STREETLIFE. Really now, because I know whatever events K-lite come up with they'll surely be GREAT. I always hope that I'll get lucky, so, I'll experience the fun and everything that goes along with it and for me to have something to "write" about. (Yeah right!) K-lite is bringing back my favorite freebie---none other than the STREETLITE concert series this March. (By the time you read these, the event could've ended already.)
Sorry about that! AEON'S WAY
Hey, me again, well, it's the 1999 ish of my so-called newsletter. When I started this so-called newsletter it was a 2-month (April/May) per ish thing, then I tried doing it on a monthly (June, July & August) basis and then I went back to a 2 month (Sept/Oct & Nov/Dec) per issue thingy but now, I'm trying it on a quarterly basis, 3 months for every ish. But still, I'm not sure if I can be punctual. See? I do this whenever I'm hit with this feeling of eagerness or something. I can't write about something if I'm not really into it. For instance, the so-called write-ups in here were written during my breaks from work or whenever I'm waiting in some place. I always bring my notebook and write whatever I feel like writing. Like a journal in a way. Though, I'm not really a BIG fan of journals. I just bring it in case I get ideas (seldom as they come) or something. This is a 3-month ish, a quarterly, still, the write-ups in here are LATE. (as always!) Depending on my budget, you might be able to read this so-called newsletter of mine before the end of March. I use the net at least once a week but mostly, I do e-mails. I allot one session for updating my site. (again, I say, it depends on my budget!) If and when I do get my own PC, I think I'll be able to be on time in finishing my so-called newsletters huh? Or still, maybe not, actually, it's all up to me and my so-called mind.
I'm guessing by now, most of you have heard about K-lite's drive in movies, right? Well, if some of you have been living in another galaxy, it's about time you get out of there and come with me to K-lite's enterprise.
The Drive-in movie is just one of many cool events the right kind of lite introduced last year. The first ever happened last May 08, 1998 at the Greenhills Shopping Center Carpark featuring the movie ERASER. It was a FUN experience. I've been told there were a few glitches along the way but for a first of its kind it turned out well. There were lots of food and drinks and even ice cream and cool freebies too. If I remember it right, they raffle off a cd stereo and a TV and some other prizes. My cousins and I dozed off in the middle of the movie because we've already seen the movie and we're not really into action flicks. I also gave away copies of my-so-called newsletter. I met Lannie Chan for the first time. That's what we did during the first K-lite drive-in movie.
Part 2 happened last November 20, 1998 at Roofdeck, Makati featuring another action flick, US MARSHALS. I can't say much about it because I wasn't able to make it. But I did have the carpass for a souvenir, which is good enough for me.
Last February 12 of this year, the 3rd K-lite drive-in movie happened at the carpark behind the church that's behind Robinson's Galleria (the street name escapes me at this moment!) featuring I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (that's where I got my title!) They said it would be better than the previous movies and they were right. The screen was just enough for a drive-in screening. The audio wasn't interrupted by Little David's announcement! (Though I didn't mind it during the first drive-in movie!) This time, they gave the listeners a double treat---2 car passes and a dozen advance screening tickets (which were given out during the drive-in movie) for the movie's sequel I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. I liked the sequel than the original. I guess, suspense flicks are apt for drive-in screenings. My niece told me they should show TITANIC on their upcoming drive-in movies. Maybe STARWARS my nephew suggested! CLUELESS for my sister!
(As if!) I wanna see THE TRUMAN SHOW or JERRY MAGUIRE or THE WEDDING SINGER myself. Well, the movies K-lite want to show is entirely up to them but I'm sure they're open for suggestions. So, to be a part of the next K-lite drive-in movie, be sure you're tuned in to 103.5! Don't be left behind!
There were ups and downs. It was a downer for Paul Reno, Martin Gill & Joshua listeners. Miss Queenie---the midday newsie, Ron South---a more libidinous guy than Joshua took over Talkback & Vince---the Sportslite co-host whose main sport is solving crossword puzzles (no offense Vince, I also brave those crosswords once in a while, I haven't solved a puzzle yet!) went aboard the K-lite enterprise. Some people came and go but the thing is, K-lite is still K-lite. I mean, K-lite is not just one person it's a BIG enterprise that can (and will) function as long as the captain--Little David--is aboard and keeping the K-lite spirit alive. Cool songs, cool talkshows, cool freebies (way cool!), cool dj's & newsies and you get cool K-lite! (Cool!)
Here's a month to month rundown on the events K-lite had during the year 1998! I must've missed a few but if you were there I'm sure it was memorable for you.
January 20 , Devil's Advocate, SM Megamall Cinema, the Keanu Reeves-Al Pacino flick and a cool mug for me.
February 15 , Little David's day! February 16, my day! (I just had to add that! Hehehe!) The Postman, SM Megamall, I gave my tickets to a co-worker.
March 3 , Fallen, SM Megamall Cinema, Gave away my tickets again!
April 7 , Jinji's day! Sphere, SM Megamall Cinema, my sister and her friend got to watch it. April 21, Mad City, SM Megamall Cinema, gave away my tickets again! April 27, US Marshals, SM Megamall Cinema, I was there, I had to be there, I gave out my first ever so-called newsletter with the help of my cousin & nephew!
May 8, Greenhills Shopping Center Carpark, the first ever drive-in movie here in the country, Eraser was the featured film, lotsa food & drinks plus cool giveaways too! I also gave out more newsletters. May 19, City of Angels, SM Megamall Cinema, a nice angel movie with Nicolas Cage & Meg Ryan and a CD soundtrack I got from Twisted. May 28, the start of the K-lite Diamond & Movies fest wherein a diamond was raffle off for each movie screening, City of Angels was the first movie on the festival, Love Affair (June 4), Jerry Maguire (June 11), My Bestfriend's Wedding (June 18)---the only one I attended, to give away more newsletters!
July 2, Rockin' through the years--the K-lite centennial concert, which featured The Groove & Divas at Annapolis Live. I gave my tickets to a co-worker! Am I nice or what? (what?!) July 27, Lethal Weapon 4, SM Megamall Cinema, I was there!
The first STREETLITE Concert Series was introduced at Streetlife Makati. August 4, Passage. August 11, Channels. August 18, Groove. August 25, Great Divide. I was able to go to 3 out of the 4 gigs! My favorite was Passage!
The K-lite bar tour started hopping September 8 featuring First Circle @ Cyberia, Makati. September 15, Parliament Syndicate @ Strumms, El Pueblo. September 22, Toy Symphony @ Blue Lizard & The Blade's day! September 29, Mulatto @ Nightwatch. I missed the tour, got left behind by the K-lite shuttle.
October 5, Greenhills Theater, A Perfect Murder. I gave the tickets to my parents. October 12, SM Megamall Cinema, The Negotiator. I chose Dawson's Creek over Kevin Spacey & Samuel L. Jackson; it was a good decision at that moment! October 29, K-lite's 3rd Anniversary @ Virgin Café; K-lite gave a few select listeners to be up close and personal with them. I even got pictures of the said party.
Streetlite 2 kicked in with True Faith (November 03), Passage (November 10), Retrospect (November 17), South Border (November 24). I missed Passage and Retrospect. Another part 2 happened on the 20th of the same month with the 2nd Drive-in movie at Roofdeck Makati, the featured movie was US Marshals. Unfortunately, I missed it! And lotsa birthdays too, Queenie (08), Ron South (20), Lannie Chan (21), Monica (22), Don Henry (24), Jessica Zafra (26)
And for the last but definitely not the least month of the year, they gave out cash, yeah, shopping money, to 3 lucky listeners who got P10000, P20000, and P30000 each. That particular freebie wasn't for me. I'm sure those who got lucky had a wonderful holiday season!
Whew! That was a good year for K-lite and for us, listeners! Don't you think? (I think so!) Man, I'm sure 1999 will be much better! Well, hope to see ya on the coming K-lite events! Let's cross our fingers together!
When I first met him, I thought he was gonna be an intimidating person because of his status. But I was absolutely, totally WRONG because he's a very approachable and a down-to-earth human being. As long as you have good intentions, you'll be on Little David's side. So far, my intentions have been good, so, I guess, I can say that I'm on his side.
Nitelite listeners would agree when I say that he really give GOOD advices on the show. That's why NITELITE is such a BIG hit. Actually, it's a three-way HIT---Little David's the adviser, Monica's the singer/jokester, Blade's the impersonator.
Well, going back to Little David, if you wanna know about the latest gadgets, the latest playstation games, what's cool on the net, Stephen King, sci-fi flicks, STARWARS, STARTREK, computer softwares and more, most often than not Little D got it covered for you. Aside from the technical stuffs, Little David also likes Martina Hingis, Jennifer Lopez, Rebecca Romjin (She was the "dirty girl" who guested in FRIENDS) Among the Nitelite Tripod, he's the only one who refuses to sing on the air. (I guess, Monica got that singing part well covered--Yeah!) Little David is the original host of Nitelite, then came Monica and Blade. I can't imagine Nitelite without Monica or Blade) Another thing I like about Little David is, he commends me for the things that I've been doing (and still will do) for K-lite. It's like if I get a thumbs up from him, the rest of the nice people of K-lite will like it too. He's the Captain; so, they have to obey him! (hehehe!) Coming from his critical self, it means a whole lot to me. Because of Little David's take on things (especially on Nitelite), I learned how to give credit to myself (from time to time!). All I can say is, without Little David there'll be no K-lite. And without K-lite, I wouldn't be a bit courageous and do all of these. All THANKS to you captain! (Thank you!)
They started 99 with the movie PRACTICAL MAGIC (January 19th) starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. The movie was okay. If you've heard the song This kiss before the movie, and whether you like the song or not, chances are, after seeing the movie the song will constantly be playing in your head. Hey, you'll even sing it, repeating the phrase "this kiss..." that's what happened to my cousins and I. My favorite scene is, when they were dancing to that catchy tune Coconut (or something?) cute scene. Tag line: "Hold on to your husbands girls!"
February 1st, the first day of the Valentine month, K-lite gave us a pre-Valentine treat in the form of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks from the movie YOU'VE GOT MAIL. They're one of my favorite on-screen couples! I loved the movie; there even came a point when I shed a tear. I wanted to hate Joe (Tom's character) when he stood up Kathleen (Meg's character) but in the end Joe won me back. After seeing the movie, some people might think there are Joes and Kathleens out there. Actually, there could be and it really could happen to some people but the movie didn't change my view on meeting people on-line though I'm not saying I don't believe in it. I guess, I'm just being cautious here. Anyway, the movie was a good one, do check it out for yourself, my favorite scene would be the ending scene, nice touch. Tag line: "You've got mail!" (What else?!)
February 16th, my birthday coincided with an advance screening to the sequel of K-lite's 3rd Drive-in movie, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. This time, it's I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, I like the sequel than the original. More suspense on the sequel or should I say, more body count but the story line is not that strong. And there'll even be a third part, man, I wonder what the title would be. But I'm sure when the 3rd part comes out, my sisters and I will still watch it. We're suckers for those slasher type movies. Suckers. Tag line: "You want me? Come and get me. I'm not dying on this island. Do you hear me?" (Guess who said that line!)
Last March 8th, they showed PAYBACK, unfortunately, I didn't get LUCKY on their freebie but I've seen the movie. It was VIOLENT! Really violent! Three things you'd remember after seeing the movie: Cigarettes, bullets on people and Mel Gibson's nine lives. Tag line: "She'll quit hookin' and I'll stop shootin' people." (That's as accurate as I can get!)
And on the 29th, my youngest sister's day, it'll be MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, I guess, I'll be able to catch it. The movie looks interesting. I'm not a Kevin Costner fan but I'll still watch the movie. The soundtrack sounds okay. Well, can't really talk about it, for I haven't seen the movie yet. I do have a tag line, I got it from K-lite's plug for the movie, "Now you choose, between yesterday and tomorrow!" (Or is it "today?") Well, that's about it for now, keep it locked in on the right kind of lite to catch more good movies. Relax. Enjoy. See a movie. For FREE. From K-lite.
Well, the bands slated to perform for this series includes: RETROSPECT (09th), FREESTYLE (16th), CULTURE SHACK (23rd), & KULAY (30th). I'm looking forward to KULAY. I bet it'll be a good show, don't get me wrong, the other bands are bound to be good shows too. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get lucky for KULAY. Actually, if you really wanna go, even if you don't have FREE passports you can, the thing is, the BEST seats in the house are RESERVED for K-lite. Nothing really beats a FREEBIE, especially if it comes from K-lite. The next time they have STREETLITE IV, try joining their promo and who knows you might just get lucky. I don't lose hope in winning from their really COOL freebies even though the competition is really TOUGH nowadays. And I couldn't be more happy because it only means ONE thing, a lot of people are tune in to the right kind of lite. (It's about time!)
Sometimes, I get ideas but I just can't seem to put them into words. I think, it's called a "writer's block?" Man, I'm really into this writing thing, I'm embarrassed. Why? You might ask, well, I still feel uncomfortable with people reading my so-called write-ups. I can take criticisms well and good. It's just that when some people say that it's good, sometimes, I feel like they're just being nice to me. Of course, I'm very much happy when they compliment my write-ups. It feels GREAT! (really great!) I guess, it's just my self-confidence getting in the way sometimes. I always end up talking about confidence, my confidence, it's the end all and be all of my existence (sounds melodramatic huh?!).
Anyway, what happened to you during the first 3 months of the new year? I hope it was okay, so far. The start of January wasn't good at all for me, my father was hospitalized for 2 weeks or so because of a heart attack. Scary feeling. The latter part of the month was good though because a couple of my cousins from the States visited us. I also got the chance to go to Banaue, nice place. We did some hiking but I quit while I was ahead. My thighs and legs were really hurting and I felt like I was gonna throw up because of the Gatorade and Chips Ahoy we ate while hiking that very rocky road. Hiking is not for me.
February was fairly good to me, I guess, I've to be happy during the month of February because it's my birth month. By the way, I turned 23! (I'm getting old!) And I also got a new money making gig courtesy of my Aunt and Uncle! I'm totally grateful!
This month? It's okay, today is the 24th, so far, it's been okay! Could be better! Just like the band Culture Shack they were the featured band for the third leg of STREETLITE 3! But they have good voices, and they did a good rendition of Monica's "Angel of Mine." I'm looking forward to KULAY. I'm hoping and wishing that I'll get lucky. Fingers crossed! (as always!) Well, that's about it for now, oh, before I forget, my celebrities for this quarter are RICKY MARTIN, he rocked the recent GRAMMY AWARDS! He was the spice of the said show! I must have seen his performance 20 times or so courtesy of a very kind hearted person though sometimes forgetful but with a very sharp edge! Thanks man! GWYNETH PALTROW because of her recent Oscar! (a well-deserved award!) I love Shakespeare in Love, seen it twice! I have seen most of her movies like Emma, The Pallbearer, Moonlight & Valentino, Seven, Sliding Doors and she's always good in them. Finally, Mr. Flyguy himself, MARK McGRATH of Sugar Ray, their latest album 14:59 is a good one. They have a version of Abracadabra and I love it. I don't know if K-lite will play it on a regular basis, it's kinda loud but I'm pretty sure it can be played on Faster than Lite. Calling the attention of the Blade.
Well, bye for now, THANKS for reading and for whatever it is you wanna tell me negative or otherwise. I'm just an e-mail away at marcy76@usa.net! TAKE CARE now!
